I will be changing my baby’s name in posts to BBB.  When I had my son, he was named Baby Boy Brown by the hospital since I had not changed the name on my medical insurance.  So, with the impending divorce I feel that it is appropriate that he take on my name in posts.  It isn’t a big deal, just a change to note that will take place in future posts.

As soon as I became a mother, I felt an immediate shift from being judged as a woman to being judged as a mother.  I can’t explain what happened but I can tell you that I felt like a failure instantly.  I don’t want to go into the long version of the story but the feeling of failure came from not being able to breastfeed immediately, Baby J constantly crying and various other little things.

Motherhood has taught me so much.  The first lesson is that I will never judge other mothers again.  Well, I think that I will judge those that are just plain stupid – I will judge you if you put your children in danger!!  Please don’t be Michael Jackson and hang your child over a ledge and we will be okay.  I am definitely not the mother that I thought that I would be.  I thought that I would be in charge and set schedules and have this perfect child.  Well, I love Baby J to pieces and he brings joy to my life every day, but he is not perfect.  He is extremely demanding.  When I say demanding, I mean it.  I don’t go to the bathroom or do chores without him right by my side.  And for all those naysayers out there who believe that he is spoiled, I invite you to live my life for a few hours and see what you think.  I have tried tough love, I have tried lots of love and nothing has seemed to work.  He wants to be with me 24/7.  But that is mine to deal with as I see fit.

I think that as mothers we have a tendency to have strong feelings about different things.  For instance, breastfeeding vs. formula feeding, cloth vs. disposable diapers, co-sleeping vs. crib and these are just a few topics that the boards on babycenter.com and others will discuss. I think, at the end of the day, that we all want the same thing – a healthy, happy child.  And as mothers, we should band together rather than judge others.  The saying, “walk in her shoes” exists for a reason and we should try to remember that!

Like most moms out there, I have gone through a lot of different sippy cups in search of that perfect sippy cup.  We have tried those with straws and those without.  We have tried many different brands and styles.  I finally found one that does not leak, spill, leave water rings and does not dent.  It is the Thermos Foogo Leak Proof Sippy Cup .  And the best part is that it keeps the liquid cold.  It is an amazing sippy cup.  I got it at Babies r Us and it is a bit expensive.  However, when you look at the cost of the previously used sippy cups and how quickly I went through them, I feel that this purchase is going to be worth it.  Baby J actually ends up drinking more of the liquid in this cup. Before I would find that it was all over the floors and rugs.  I recommend this sippy cup to anyone who has a baby that uses a sippy cup and has had no luck with others.  It is definitely worth a try!!

Aden and Anais Mod About Baby burpy bibs

I am a huge fan of Aden and Anais.  I have their swaddles and two sleeping bags.  A short time ago, I purchased the second Aden and Anais sleeping bag for Baby J.  I was so excited since this would be his second one and it was in the next size up so he could grow into it.  I find that the muslin material is perfect for summer.  It keeps Baby J from overheating at night.  Unfortunately, this second sleeping bag frayed at the seam in the wash.  So I contacted Aden and Anais customer service and explained the situation.  They were so quick to respond and didn’t hesitate to send me a new one.  Well I opened my package yesterday, 11 June, and I was so surprised to find not only that they had replaced my sleep sack but had also sent me burpy bibs.  I had considered buying one but Baby J has so many bibs and burp cloths, I restrained myself.  I do have a tendency to buy things for Baby J that he may not necessarily need or use for very long.  I am so happy that I received them.  They are great – soft and absorbent.  Plus they have “wings” so the bib goes around the entire front of the baby.  Most bibs leave the sides open and food gets on your baby’s clothing no matter how careful you are.

It is rare to find such good customer service these days and I am now a huge fan of Aden and Anais.  I hope that you try out their items.  I can say that they are worth every penny.

Cub by NettoLast night I received a call from Planet Kids telling me that I have won the grandest of all grand prizes.  Now, I had entered a contest while we were there for their anniversary celebration to purchase a Skip Hop Via Messenger diaper bag and also a cup holder for our stroller.  I always enter contests because you just never know!!  Well, we ended up winning a crib and dresser set from the Netto Collection.  It is the the Cub and it is quite impressive.  We already have our crib, dresser and changing table set up in the nursery.  My parents purchased the pieces for us a month or so ago.  However, they will benefit from this contest win as they are the lucky recipients of the crib and dresser set.  Baby J has already won numerous things:  Maclaren Quest stroller, tickets to various events through Big City Moms, Cybex 2.go soft baby carrier, Netto Cub crib and dresser.  I wonder if I should play the lottery and if Baby J will help me win it big!!

Tom at ChristmasI was on the phone with my Mom the other day and was telling her some of the things that come out of Tom’s mouth.  She was hysterical laughing and told me that I need to write them all down.  Well here is on: I was talking to Tom about different things we need to take care of before Baby J arrives.  We are coming close to finding out the gender of the baby and will probably register for things after that.  One of the major concerns has been which stroller we will choose.  If we go with the Orbit, we won’t need a car seat initially and if we go with the UppaBaby, we will need a car seat to bring Baby J home.  With that we discussed bringing Baby J home from the hospital.  I am due November 9th.  This means that Baby J is most likely to be born during cooler/colder weather.  Tom’s solution to the car seat discussion was to walk Baby J home.  We live about 15 blocks from the hospital which is nothing compared to our weekend jaunts around the city.  However, we don’t have a 2-3 day old infant in November weather and I have not just given birth.  Sometimes I just have to laugh over Tom’s ideas.  They are so cute and so funny.  I cannot help but love him a bit more for being so cute.  As they come up, I will post them.  This is just one of many that I am sure will come up. 🙂

image_babyIf anyone knows me they know that I am a planner.  I may not be super organized but I like to plan everything.  You can ask Tom or my family if you are in any doubt!  As Tom told me today, “You are in my world” referring to an itinerary that has not shown up yet for our trip.  Registering for baby things is no exception to this rule.  I have been scouring websites for ideas and asking my friends for advice on items.  I think that aside from the items themselves, the store(s) in which you register becomes a big question too.  There are so many stores to choose from.  You have your standard BabiesRUs (surprisingly pricier than other stores with same items), Baby Depot (decent selection but not much of what I would need), Target (surprisingly has a good selection and great prices) and PotteryBarnKids (super expensive and has lots of items that you can get at other stores).  Then you have your Manhattan/NJ stores, BuyBuyBaby, GiggleAlbee Baby, Planet Kids, etc.  It is all so confusing and takes a lot of research.  Well, I have tons of time on my hands and I have done my research and have narrowed it down to 2/3 stores.  Unfortunately, not one store carries every registry item I want.  I am not revealing the registry stores yet as I have not started the registries.  Also, I am waiting to reveal them until I am certain the baby is a girl or boy.

The other question is about registry items.  I think that I have narrowed down my list of “must-haves” but it is inevitable that I will be running to Buy Buy Baby or some other baby store to pick up something after Baby J arrives.  I am excited to learn along the way as that is how most parents do it and I think is an important part of life.  Haven’t we all stumbled our way through different parts of our lives and learned something as a result?  Alot of us were petrified we would not make any friends when we first got to our college dorms or even kindergarten, yet we found a way and made friends somehow.  I think that this is just another step  that will end up being a life lesson.
