I have to blog about this other Big City Moms event – Stroller Spectacular.  It is being held at Planet Kids on the UWS and it is worth it if you are not sure which stroller you want to purchase.  This is the first event that I attended through Big City Moms and it started what can only be called the luckiest 9 months of my life.  I ended up winning a stroller and from there have won numerous items, really too  many to name. Check out my post from the event I attended: https://uwsmom.wordpress.com/2009/05/20/i-won-a-stroller/

Cub by NettoLast night I received a call from Planet Kids telling me that I have won the grandest of all grand prizes.  Now, I had entered a contest while we were there for their anniversary celebration to purchase a Skip Hop Via Messenger diaper bag and also a cup holder for our stroller.  I always enter contests because you just never know!!  Well, we ended up winning a crib and dresser set from the Netto Collection.  It is the the Cub and it is quite impressive.  We already have our crib, dresser and changing table set up in the nursery.  My parents purchased the pieces for us a month or so ago.  However, they will benefit from this contest win as they are the lucky recipients of the crib and dresser set.  Baby J has already won numerous things:  Maclaren Quest stroller, tickets to various events through Big City Moms, Cybex 2.go soft baby carrier, Netto Cub crib and dresser.  I wonder if I should play the lottery and if Baby J will help me win it big!!

If you have kids or are expecting a child then you should head over to Planet Kids this weekend for their anniversary celebration.  They have 2 locations – one on the UES and the UWS.  Their staff is very helpful and it looks to be a lot of fun.  They will have representatives from various vendors, giveaways, raffles, promotions and refreshments.  Let me know if you do check it out, comments are always welcome.

Maclaren QuestI won this stroller at a Big City Moms event back in May.  UWS Dad and I went to Planet Kids to pick out the colors we wanted.  Of course, Baby J/ Hunter is not due until November so we had a while to wait before it would be used.  I am not a patient person and am surprised how well I have handled this 9 months being pregnant thing so far.  I would look at the box in our 2nd bedroom and move it so I could get to something else.  This went on for a little while until I could not help myself any longer and I opened the box.

I was pleasantly surprised.  This stroller is quite sturdy and well-made.  The instructions were pretty easy to read however I would recommend going to your local baby store and having them demonstrate all the features.  It comes with a rain cover so there is one less accessory to purchase.  For more details, check out their website: http://is.gd/1GNqB or you can always go to your local baby store to see it in person.  Some of my favorites are: Buy Buy Baby, Planet Kids, Babies r Us and Schneiders Baby.

This is a great mid-level umbrella-type stroller (it will run you about $245) that will suit your city or suburban needs for babies from 3 months to 55lbs.

image_babyIf anyone knows me they know that I am a planner.  I may not be super organized but I like to plan everything.  You can ask Tom or my family if you are in any doubt!  As Tom told me today, “You are in my world” referring to an itinerary that has not shown up yet for our trip.  Registering for baby things is no exception to this rule.  I have been scouring websites for ideas and asking my friends for advice on items.  I think that aside from the items themselves, the store(s) in which you register becomes a big question too.  There are so many stores to choose from.  You have your standard BabiesRUs (surprisingly pricier than other stores with same items), Baby Depot (decent selection but not much of what I would need), Target (surprisingly has a good selection and great prices) and PotteryBarnKids (super expensive and has lots of items that you can get at other stores).  Then you have your Manhattan/NJ stores, BuyBuyBaby, GiggleAlbee Baby, Planet Kids, etc.  It is all so confusing and takes a lot of research.  Well, I have tons of time on my hands and I have done my research and have narrowed it down to 2/3 stores.  Unfortunately, not one store carries every registry item I want.  I am not revealing the registry stores yet as I have not started the registries.  Also, I am waiting to reveal them until I am certain the baby is a girl or boy.

The other question is about registry items.  I think that I have narrowed down my list of “must-haves” but it is inevitable that I will be running to Buy Buy Baby or some other baby store to pick up something after Baby J arrives.  I am excited to learn along the way as that is how most parents do it and I think is an important part of life.  Haven’t we all stumbled our way through different parts of our lives and learned something as a result?  Alot of us were petrified we would not make any friends when we first got to our college dorms or even kindergarten, yet we found a way and made friends somehow.  I think that this is just another step  that will end up being a life lesson.

I went to an event hosted by Big City Moms last night at Planet Kids on the UWS – Stroller Spectacular.  It was worth every penny.  It was informative, interesting and fun.  It allowed moms and dads the opportunity to ask representatives from the respective stroller manufacturers about their products.  You also learned quite a bit about each stroller.  I have done quite a bit of research about both the Orbit and Uppa Baby, however did learn something new about each one.

At the end of the night, they did 3 raffles.  The first was for a Maclaren Quest Maclaren Queststroller, the next for a Micralite Toro and the third for a spot at their Dr. Harvey Karp event.  I happened to win the first one and was so excited.  I even get to pick the color of the stroller I want.  Tom and I are going with the Coffee/Green to be neutral.

I never win raffles.  It has been proven throughout my life.  Now, I have a friend who has won tickets to numerous contests and trips to various places.  She is quite lucky when it comes to contests and raffles.  I guess Baby J is bringing some luck into our lives.  Thank you, Baby J!!

Uppa Baby VistaBig City Moms is having an event on Tuesday, May 19th and Wednesday, May 20th.  They are holding it at Planet Kids – Tuesday is on the UWS and Wednesday is on the UES, both at 6:30pm.  I am so excited about this event as we are still not sure which stroller we want to add to our registry.  We are torn between the Uppa Baby and the Orbit.  They are both very different strollers with great features.  The question becomes which features are most important to us.  We don’t know, which is why this event should be very helpful.  At the event, there is a giveaway and I may come home with a free stroller.  Though I have to admit that I am not too confident about that one since I am one of the most unlucky person I know.  I am lucky in life, just not contests.  I hope to see lots of expectants moms (and dads) from the UWS there.
